About the Ladies Retreat If you have experienced the tragic loss of a child or husband through death, whether your loss has been just recent or several years, this event is for you. This will be a time of sharing our stories, learning from our speaker and from each other, and over-all an encouraging, refreshing , relaxing, and fun weekend. We are also opening it for women who have suffered cancer. These are some very hard things in life to go through. But God still gives us hope and joy in our great loss, and in our sorrow and pain. Here are some verses I really like on the hope we have through Christ. Revelation 14:13 NIV Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NIV Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him Revelation 21:4 NIV ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” We experienced a loss just recently when our second oldest son died in a quad accident on April 19th, 2017, just 2 months short of his 15th Birthday. It was very difficult for us, and is still on going. Some days are harder than others. We are thankful though that his death was sudden and he was not suffering. He was gone already when we found him pinned under the quad. The autopsy showed he died of a broken neck with very little to no trauma. So even though we were grateful and thankful for things concerning his death, the pain was still there so real, and so hard. But God is keeping us going. Thanks to many, many prayers from family and friends. One of the many prayers that I prayed right after our son's death was this, " If there is anyone who knows us Lord who does not know you, let this be the moment." I felt that God put that on my heart. That He would bring life out of this death. It was very beautiful that the gospel message and invitation to come to the Lord was given at our son's funeral. Right after losing our son I started hearing from several people of thier losses. So a few months down the road when I was thinking of and praying for these different families it came on my heart to organize a ladies retreat for them. One where we would have a speaker speaking on this topic of loss and hope, and a speaker that also experienced a loss so they could really relate to these ladies. And we are now with solid plans for the retreat, and a great speaker that God amazingly helped me to find. Here is her bio below.
Our Speaker: Carola Meerkerk Carola is an experienced songwriter, singer and speaker and she has been nominated twice for our Canadian Covenant Awards for her songs "I Will Take Care of You" and "Nothing is Wasted". She speaks to the heart from God's Word as she relates the tragedy and loss of "a son of her heart". Her experiences and great love for God has impacted many women. She is a prayer warrior whom God uses to ignite women's lives with a desire to know him, grow closer to him, to be held in his embrace and learn from him forever Visit Carola's website at www.bethea.ca Here off to the right you can listen to one of Carola's songs. |
