Sabbath
My family and I rest and worship on the 7th day instead of Sunday. Why?
The reason is it's one of the 10 commandments.
Exodus 20:8-11
(8) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
(9) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
(10) But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
(11) For in 6 days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
We believe that we are to keep the 10 commandments and that they are all important. ( Matthew 5:18 -19)We do not feel that any are unnecessary, or that any do not apply to us to day. We keep God's commandments out of love for God. ( John 14:15, 14:21, John 15:10) The commandments are not to be a burden but a joy!! ( 1 John 5:3 ) To me its a total love thing! ( 1 John 5: 2 , 2 John 6)
There is many places in the Bible that God has instructed us to keep the Sabbath day and one can look those up in an concordance, but I will share just a couple more verses here. Though I feel we only need the one place in the 10 commandments, for us to know this is what God wants. Another good thing to look in the concordance would be thecommandments.
Genesis 2 : 1-3 , Hebrews 4: 1-11
I feel Sabbath is just one of those many things we do out of love for God, not a ticket to heaven as some may see it, nor something in order to be saved, but because we are saved and we love God, and we want to obey God. And because we want to please Him in every part of our lives.
Love and obedience go hand in hand, and I believe there is not true love if there is not true obedience.
Over the years I have written various blog posts on Sabbath. To read those just scroll below.
Here is video blog post I have done on Sabbath as well.
Also my Dad and mom have just written a tract on the Sabbath. It is well written and easy to read. To read their tract click here.
Our Rest Day
From time to time I love to post on here about our family's rest day. The day we use for rest and worship is a bit different from the day most people use. For that reason, it can come across as different or strange, but it is also very Biblical and very special, and that is why I like to talk about it so much. I should add that though it may be strange in our society, it is certainly not strange in the Bible.
Our rest day is on Saturday, the Seventh Day, which is called the Sabbath in the Bible. So I always just refer to Saturday as Sabbath. I know some times people are confused about what day I am talking about when I say Sabbath instead of Saturday, but I feel more comfortable using that word. It helps me keep the right perceptive of what the day really is.
So what makes the Sabbath day so special?
Well the first thing is that it's the day that God set aside for rest at the time of creation. In Genesis 2:1-3 we read, Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Wow, that is pretty awesome isn't?! He not only rested on that day from His work, but He also blessed and sanctified it. No other day do we see that He did that to.
Then later on He gave it as a commandment for His people in the book of Exodus chapter 20. Yes, it is one of the 10 commandments!
Exodus 20: 8-11. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Wow, now He hallowed the Sabbath day too! This day is getting even more special as we go along!! God knew we needed a rest day each week, and He set aside that one certain day, just for that purpose, just for us. Words can't describe how wonderful that makes me feel!
I know that it is often said that the Sabbath day was changed from the Seventh Day to first day of week ( Sunday ) in the New Testament by the disciples. But if you diligently search the New Testament on that, you will see that they did not change the day. There is much evidence that the 10 commandments still stand in the New Testament. For one, Jesus spoke on the commandments in the apostles, also the Sabbath is mentioned in Hebrews chapter 4: 1-11
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him,Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him,Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it*, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
And if one was to give it much thought I think it would be easy to see that the disciples or any of the future followers of Christ did not have any authority from God to change the one of God's 10 Commandments. Even Jesus was here on earth going only about His Fathers business, and not bringing any of His own agenda or teachings. Jesus did not have his own commandments or separate teachings from God, but only spoke what God the Father gave for Him to say, and He kept His Father's commandments while here on the earth.
God's followers did not change the rest day in the New Testament, but it was changed through the years alright. It is a good thing to check into our history and see just where and when Sunday came in to being as the rest day instead of the day God created and gave to us. At the end of this post I will share some links for you to check out.
I can't imagine how we could possible want to substitute another day for the day that God sanctified, hallowed, blessed, and set aside just for us! Now that is one very special day!
It is my desire that all of God's followers would experience the joy and privilege of resting and worshiping on the Seventh Day. And it is happening more and more these days. I am happy to say that keeping of the Sabbath is getting a lot more common now.
Praying that this post has been a blessing to you. If you would like to read the other posts of mine that I have written through the years on the Sabbath, please feel free to look them up here on my blog and read them. And don't forget to check out the following links too.

Why Sabbath? ( Its a love thing)
My family and I rest and worship on the 7th Day. And I just wanted to share why it is we use that day for that purpose, instead of Sunday which is the well noted "Lord's Day", and which most churches use.The reason is very simple and straight forward. You do not need to go deep in scripture to find it, nor try to find many verses on the Sabbath Day to prove its right.(though there is many)
Its very simple, its one of the 10 commandments.
" Remmeber the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the 7th day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man servant, nor thy maid servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates. For in 6 days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exdos 20: 8-11
We defently believe that we are to keep the 10 commandments today. And we belive no commandment is any less in value: there isn't any that is not necessary. They are all ment to be kept. The commanmnets are kept out of our Love for God. They are not a burden but a joy!!
"If ye love me, keep my commanments". John 14:15
" By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grevious." 1 John 5: 2-3
" And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself to walk even as he walked." 1 John : 3-6
To truely love God we have to have 100 percent obedieance. And you really can't have one with out the other, LOVE and OBEDIENCE go hand in hand. You can not truely OEBY unless you turely LOVE, and you can not truely LOVE if you do not truely OBEY. Our love to God is showed in our obedience to Him.
Do not take my word on this, look it up for your self. Get your concordance out and look up scrpituers on the Sabbath Day, commanments, love, and so on. Its there, and He is calling you! He wants your whole heart, your whole devotion, your 100 percent love and obedience!!! He wants you as hi special child!!
Have a most awesome day!! In Him, Mae
P.S. That I am aware of there is only one scripture reference to the term Lord's day which is Revelations 1:10. And it does not say what day of the week it is referring to.

Remember the Sabbath Day to Keep it Holy
Here is an excerpt from a story book I am reading to the children. I totally loved the book except I was disappointed when I read this.
Sunday is the Lord's day. The Bible says to 'Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.'
I am like what?
What in the world does Sunday have to do with that verse from the 10 commandments?
If that verse was written in it's completion then it would be very easy to see that a person can not use that verse to support the keeping of Sunday.
8) Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it Holy.
9) six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work.
10) But the Seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
11) For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11
There is nothing in those above verses that links Sunday to the Sabbath that God was speaking of.
Some where through the years the Church has changed the sabbath from the seventh day to Sunday.
But God's commandment on that has never changed, not even in the New Testament, and never will.
Using that verse alone (Exodus 20:8) and using it as the churches do to justify Sunday, well you could justify any day then. That means if I decided to call Monday my sabbath, and kept it holy I would be fulfilling that 10 commandment just like all the Sunday churches are.
Sunday is not anymore the Sabbath day or Lord's day than Monday or Tuesday is.
We are not to simply put any day in there that we want and call it Sabbath.
God clearly gave us a day for rest and worship, which is the seventh day.
I have seen so many times the 10 commandments posted in different places and every time I have seen it it, it is with the 10 commandment of the seventh day uncompleted.
It makes me hurt in side every time I see that. By writing the 10 commandments and leaving out such a vital part, is doing a terrible thing to this nation and to the people. It is so very, very sad.
It has to be breaking God's heart as well.
It is time the 10 commandments are written right.
It is time that parents teach them to their children. ( Deut. 6: 7-9)
And it is time they are taught to the people in the Churches.
I know some may wonder why does it matter which day we use to rest and worship and to keep holy, as long as we do keep a day.
Why does it matter?
Because God said so.
When God says something and gives a command on something, then that's the way it is to be, regardless if we understand why or not, or regardless if we think another way may be better or just as good.
You can see that time and time again in the Old Testament when God dealt with His people.
It is time for a great awaking to God's word and truth.
It is time to turn back to Him.
In Him,
Mae

Loving God, loving the commandments
"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." 1John 5:3
"And I will delight myself in thy commandment, which I have loved." Psalm 119: 47
"With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments." Psalm 119:10
"Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold." Psalm 119:27
"My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye." Proverbs 7; 1-2
"If ye keep my commandments; ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." John 15:10
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." John 14:15
"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest my self to him." John 14:21
"My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandmets. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee." Proverbs 3:1-2
Loving God and loving his commandments go hand in hand. We can not truly love God with out also loving his commandments.
And when we love God and his commandments, we will joyously obey his commandments.
Too often we see people trying to do away with the commandments, so that we do not have to obey them. But that is contrary to Scripture.
We are not to do away with them. We are to love them, and obey them. ( you can not truely love them with out obeying them)
They should be a delight and a joy to us! Never a burden.
And that makes me think of the commandment of the Sabbath. To me it is nothing but a complete joy. I so look forward to the Sabbath each week, and the wonderful and blissful rest it gives me. I would never think of it as a burden. I love to honer and rest on the Sabbath.
All of God's commandmnets should be that way to us.
May we all find great love and joy in keeping God's commandments.
In Him,
Mae

They should be a delight and a joy to us! Never a burden.
And that makes me think of the commandment of the Sabbath. To me it is nothing but a complete joy. I so look forward to the Sabbath each week, and the wonderful and blissful rest it gives me. I would never think of it as a burden. I love to honer and rest on the Sabbath.
All of God's commandmnets should be that way to us.
May we all find great love and joy in keeping God's commandments.

Loving God's Law
Something else that has really been leaping out at me in our recent readings of the Israelites is how God instructed them to teach the law to their children and their children's children.
And not only to teach and keep the law, but to love the law.
'Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and to bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sitest in thin house, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates." Deut. 11: 18-2o
And remember this was not just God's instructions to His people then, but to His people now!! Which is us!!
But today I see a lack of teaching of God's laws. And a lack of love for His laws.
Not only is His law not seeming to be taught, but in fact trying to weasel a way out of it. Trying to find area in Paul's teaching to get a way from the law.
This should not be so among God's people.
"But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto Him with all your heart and with all your soul." Joshua 22:5
"O that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it may be well with them, and their children forever. " Deut. 5: 29
"O how love I thy law! It is my mediation all the day." Psalm 119: 97
" I have longed for thy salvation, O lord: and the law is my delight." Psalm 119: 174
"But his delight is in the law of the lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." Psalm 1:2
"My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandment with thee. So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding." Proverbs 2:2
It seems the love for the law has been lost some where. It even seems to be viewed to some as burdensome. If the law can be managed to be done away with, then one feels free.
But we are to be free by fulfilling the law!!
God's law is to be a joy to us!
Here is what Jesus said about the law ( the 10 commandments ) .
" Think not that i have come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5: 17-19
Also in the book of John we read:
"But this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: ans his commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5: 2-3
"And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
He that's saith , I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1 John 2: 3-4
We need to get back to where God wanted His people to be. We need to be a people that loves God's laws, and obeys God's laws, and teaches God's laws to our children.
My oldest son had a conversation once with another child about the Sabbath day, and why we keep it. Upon hearing my son say we keep it because it is in the 10 commandments, the child's quick reply was, " oh there's a mystery behind that commandment."
I was shocked. Not only was this child not taught to keep the law, but already at that early age he was taught how to make accuse for not keeping all the law or commandments.
I see a trend today loving this world and wanting the things and the pleasures that this world gives, and so much so that there is a need to try to get out of some laws to do it. People want both the world and its pleasures, and still have God as well. But it doesn't work that way.
We have to Love God way more than this world.
"Love not this world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Farther is not in him." 1 John 2: 15
And as I see it, if our love for God is as it should be, then it will be our heart's only desire and joy to to obey His Law. We will not desire any other way. We will be free and doing exactly as we please, which will be freely doing only that which is pleasing to God.
I think God so longs for His people to gain back a love for the 10 commandments.
"But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." James 1:25
